If anyone knows how to make bad choices, it is our current president. Gates' Iran-Contra involvement is troublesome, but his background with Bush 41 is a mitigating factor. I wasn't fond of George H.W. Bush when he left office, but he was I think, on the whole, a decent foreign policy president. At least he and his team set achievable objectives, prepared for their military actions, completed those objectives, and got out.

Perhaps Gates will bring some much-needed reason and pragmatism to this war. It would certainly be difficult to find anyone less capable than Rumsfeld proved to be.

All that said, I am onboard with the Wonder Twins! It's past time we had some real legislative oversight on the executive power grab. If Congress will just do their jobs we shouldn't have to worry as much about the administration wrecking everything they touch.

It's sad when Congress has to treat the president like a 3 year-old: No, George, don't touch. George, you're going to break it. No, George, that's not yours; leave it alone. Dammit, George, I told you you were going to break it. Just go to your room and let me clean this mess up.
